"Travel Time Measurement for Traffic Management and Traveler Information"
The TDS Travel Time Measurement System works by identifying the same vehicle at two or more points in a road network, and then calculates the travel time based on the known distance. The system can supply the inputs for travel time studies. The system can be used to automatically read a vehicle license plate and to study the behavior and destination of traffic by matching vehicle license plate numbers. From these inputs you can easily determine what percentage of vehicles are local or through-traffic, or how many of the vehicles travelling a particular highway are doing so as a short-cut travel-time or heading for a specific destination.
Reliable travel time data may facilitate decisions that improve the road network’s overall use, management, and operation. The benefits of such a system include:
- Live monitoring of the effectiveness of traffic management schemes
- Improved travel time reliability
- Early warning of traffic incidents
- Reduced disruption caused by major incidents
- Alternative route advice to travelers
- Reduction in the effects of congestion
In addition to many other uses, the data may be used in road planning, setup of congestion charging rules, or integrated into variable messaging systems, web, or radio broadcasts to inform travelers so that alternate routes may be chosen
The system provides travel times and origin/destination matrices from networks of License Plate Recognition Systems. The system will:- Provides a comprehensive set of traffic information including Travel Times, Volumetrics and Origin/Destination Matrices.
- Extensive real-time and historic analysis modes.
- Easy to install, robust and vandal proof roadside equipment.
- Multiple Outstations cameras providing real-time travel time monitoring.
- Travel Times Systems can be accessed through a web browser allowing secure multi user access from anywhere.
