Transport Data Systems can provide a wealth of consulting experience that encompasses the complete engineering project lifecycle. Our skilled and experienced staff provide a complete range of technical and management services ranging from real-time software and hardware design to technical project management.
As a product development partner, we can help you by providing technical innovation and experience to:
Transport Data Systems has a broad spectrum of experience in the design and implementation of both large and small scale software systems. Our engineering team has experience in all aspects of the software project lifecycle from initial requirements analysis, software design, implementation through to software installation, test and maintenance. We pride ourselves on the quality of our software products and our ability to leverage technology to benefit our customers. We specialize in the design and implementation of real time software systems. Our technical experience includes:
Applications: Real-Time Systems, Advance Operations and Control Interfaces, Vehicle Profiling, Control Systems, Violation Enforcement Systems, Data Processing, License Plate Recognition Systems, Optical Character Recognition, Lane Controllers, Embedded systems, WEB interfaces, Lane Simulators, Gates, Smart Card Systems, Magnetic Ticket Systems, Communication Systems.
Languages: C, C++, Java, Perl, TCL/TK, HTML, PHP, ACE
Operating Systems: Linux, Windows XP/Vista
Methodologies: Structured Analysis, OO Analysis and Design, Requirements Management, Software Configuration Management
Other: TCP/IP, IIS, Apache.
Transport Data Systems has a significant experience in the design and implementation of both large and small scale hardware systems. In particular TDS has experience in the development of hardware designs and associated documentation including requirements, drawings and specifications. This includes the actual development of hardware and the associated software integration. Our technical experience includes:
System Design: This includes sensor integration as well as real time data collection and processing. Recent examples include the following:
- Completed a lane simulator using a Linux based engine controlled via a web interface. Simulator allows for development and test of the lane control computer with simulated AVI and AVC sensor inputs.
- Designed revolutionary high velocity vehicle classification system - Patent received from the US Patent Office. Design validation program using Motorola 68040 microprocessor was completed in mid 1995. System was migrated to Intel based processor in 1996.
- Generated a detailed design for a violation detection system using license plate extraction system. System is being implemented on the ATCAS program. A follow-on variation is in service on the New Jersey Consortium project. Developed the VES software for the lane implementation and developed an OCR to complement the license plate capture system.
- Completed lane controller design including wiring and packaging using a PC based controller.
- Completed a multi-lane overhead laser vehicle separator system that is currently in use on high speed lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike and at the Biddles Corner Plaza in Delaware.
Component Design: TDS designs electronic components for our for use in our various projects . Recent examples include the following:
- Completed a strobed illuminator for use with our various camera systems. The illuminator assembly can be configured for either visible or infrared operation. The packaging allows for co-location in the camera enclosure or mounting in a separate enclosure when off-axis illumination is necessary.
- Designed a serially controlled digital to analog converter system for DC iris control. This product is integrated into our area scan camera products.
Transport Data Systems has many years of project management for a wide variety of applications. The types of projects have ranged from small scale engineering design projects, to extremely large scale engineering projects including engineering design, civil engineering/construction and installation with budgets ranging up to $500M. Recent technical project management experience includes the following:
South Bay Expressway - Provided on site technical liaison between InTranS project office in New York and the South Bay Expressway project office in San Diego. Participated in the complete system design process. The project included 54 lanes of toll collection, highway CCTV surveillance and traffic counting, site security and a central administration center with ETC, cash and violation processing. This work was done as a subcontractor to InTranS Group.
South Bay Expressway - Installation manager for the installation of 46 low speed lanes, 4 multi lane open road toll sites, and all of the equipment at the toll administration center. This work was done as a subcontrator to InTranS Group.
New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway Toll System - Led the engineering project management and system design for $500M program to implement EZPASS system on NJ toll roads. This is the largest toll system in the US and includes a customer service center, violation processing center, 2 Central/Host Computers, 71 plazas and over 680 lanes of equipment (ticket and barrier) using Mark IV AVI transponders.
Caltrans ATCAS Program - Led the MFS Network Technologies system design effort on the Caltrans ATCAS Program through the completion of the Preliminary Design Review. Project included a Customer Service Center and Host as well as lane and plaza equipment for 9 bridges located throughout the State of California.
Florida Turnpike Automatic Fare Collection - Project manager for the development of the hardware and software for the upgrade of the entire Florida Turnpike. This included over a central host computing system with 50 associated plazas encompassing over 500 lanes of fare collection equipment including both ticket and barrier systems
