Automatic license plate recognition plays an ever increasing role in law enforcement. Transport Data Systems works directly with end users to maximize the benfits of such systems. Custom webpage, database features, bolo entry fields and search/sort critera are designed with the specific customer needs in mind. "HOTLIST" queries of FCIC and NCIC databases mean near instantaneous results, in turn significantly increasing arrest rates.

The TDS ALPR system captures vehicle license plate data and immediately verifies it against known lists to flag vehicles that are suspect or wanted. These systems can be used to identify stolen vehicles, search for wanted felons, conduct surveillance at suspected crime sites, provide immediate background checks for DUI offenses, monitor speed violations at slow speed zones (school zones, etc.).

Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems may be employed to provide urban areas with accurate, real time reporting of vehicle events throughout the city’s defined monitoring zone on a regular 24/7 operations basis, in all prevailing weather conditions. The systems, triggered automatically by passing vehicles, capture images of the vehicle license plate (front/rear in site/streets coverage respectively) and vehicle overview. The systems process the captured images, and generate a vehicle event which includes: event time, lane number identifier, license plate number, confidence, and the license plate image.

Fixed systems can provide continuous monitoring of high traffic areas and communicate to local agencies all database hits, allowing for rapid, efficient, and appropriate deployment of resources. Mobile systems allow for patrolling of known criminal activity, and areas providing large volumes of vehicle data. When combined with back office systems, ALPR can also be used for data mining efforts related to crime scene investigation, criminal travel patterns and hotspots and other intelligence purposes.
